I used 5 Star Movers LLC for a local move within Manhattan and was very impressed with them. The building I moved out… of was a third floor walk up with extremely narrow hallways and they had no difficulty getting any of my furniture down. They worked nonstop until the job was done. They even helped me make boxes, tape things up, and wrapped all of my furniture. They were responsive and communicative when booking. They showed up on time and worked efficiently. I had quotes from other companies for the same job that were twice the price, so I was relieved when I got their quote. They stuck to the flat fee agreement and didn’t charge me any extra. Very unprofessional management! When I gave them a call to book, I was given a certain quote for a one-bedroom/4-hour… move in NYC. It was already an expensive quote and I was told it is because it is the end of the month. But on the d ay of the move I was given a number of hidden fees, like truck charges, return journey travel time for the movers that jacked up the amount close to double of what I was initially quoted! Not only that on the day of the scheduled move, I got a call from them that they cannot make it that day, and will be able to move me only the next morning! My lease was expiring that day so I had to have an awkward conversation with my landlord, and had to pay one night’s extra rent. On the top of everything they did not come on time the next day, and completely messed up the elevator reservation schedule in my new building and all of that added up to extra hours of just waiting time that I was made to pay for as well. I raised the issue with them and after multiple phone calls, and about 15 day wait they refunded some of my money. But it was all a horrible experience. From coordinating with them, to hidden fees, to changing my move date, and charging me an insane amount. I would never use their services ever again.
