Bristol Rovers were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Ipswich Town, losing 2-0 at Portman Road with Saturday’s excellent display at Portsmouth a distant memory already.

The Gas struggled to get into the game and were behind after 12 minutes as Jack Taylor converted from close range with the visitors lucky to go into the break just one goal down.

Andy Mangan’s side came out more spirited with the presence of John Marquis, who came on for Scott Sinclair, but failed to land a decisive blow with Ipswich substitute Sone Oluko doubling the hosts lead late on.

Goodnight from us. Not the ideal result but the focus now turns to the league and Saturday’s home return against Barnsley.

Very interested to hear what he thought about that display.

Defeat for the Gas as they’re eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

Fans are headed for the exits.

The ball gets caught behind Hirst’s heels otherwisde that was game over.

The substitute should’ve made it three.

Gordon and Brown have come off.

Substitute Sone Aluko scores with a good finish.

The forward’s effort trickles wide after being played through. The angle was against him.

Rovers produce arguably their best move of the night as Brown produces a similar pass to the one that set up Thomas on Saturday, but arriving is centre-back Connolly of all people…not in his usual surroundings.

That could’ve been an awkward one for the goalkeeper but he read it well.

The hosts have three bites of the cherry before Kayden Jackson’s strike is cleared out by Lewis Gordon.

Thomas threads a pass through to the striker who looked miles offside and is flagged immediately.

Great work from Thomas to carry the ball as Collins is found in space but the forward’s shot is well-saved by the toe of Cieran Slicker.

Connor Taylor comes off for James Connolly.

Should’ve hit the target there. Let off for Rovers.

Home fans want a penalty but Ward makes an excellent last-ditch interception in the penalty area to stop Hutchinson from having a shot.

Good work from Marquis who finds Collins but the flag is raised. Rovers looked dangerous there.

Omari Hutinson is the first player to be booked for a foul on Crama. The Frenchman has been the Gas’ best player tonight.

Thomas does well to win the ball high up the pitch and finds Brown but the forward takes too long to shoot and the move fizzles out.

Rovers put together a better counter together with Brown’s final pass slightly too heavy for Collins who would’ve been through one-on-one.

The goalkeeper gets down quickly to deny Freddie Ladapo. Would’ve been very disappointed if he’d conceded there though as it was at his near post.

Miscommunication for the hosts as the ball rolls out for a Rovers corner. Better start to the half from the visitors.

Ipswich get the second half started.

That should add some more fire power.
